Research
Cancer research and clinical trials are vital to increase our understanding of how to prevent and treat cancer and improve support and care for people affected by cancer.
Patients may be invited to participate in a research study or a clinical trial to test new treatments, or they may ask health professionals what clinical trials are relevant to them.

Funding Opportunities
The National Health and Medical Research Council has published a calendar outlining the application timelines and process for a number of funding schemes. A number of suitable grant funding opportunities are listed below

| Cancer Australia: Supporting people with cancer | This initiative is aimed at improving the coordination, accessibility and development of quality cancer support networks to better support people affected by cancer, therefore improving health service delivery. |
| Cancer Austrtalia: Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) | This funding scheme supports cancer research at a national level and promotes collaboration between Australian Researchers to reduce the impact of cancer on the community and improves outcomes for people affected by cancer. |
| Cancer Council NSW project grants | This research grant has been initiated to support a range aspects of cancer, including causes, mechanisms, prevention, treatment and care, and the organisation and performance of cancer control services. |
| Cancer Council NSW program grants | Program Grants are designed to support broad-based, collaborative research by multidisciplinary teams and encourage studies for a period of up to five years. Program Grants are designed to provide funding security to such teams, enhance their productivity, and to support a freedom and flexibility of enquiry beyond that achievable through other types of grants. |
| Paul Mackay Bolton Scholarship for Cancer Research | This scholarship is intended to support applicants who wish to undertake a full-time research project, under the supervision of an experienced investigator, into the prevention, causes, effects, treatment and/or care of cancer |
| Foundation for Surgery Tour de Cure Cancer Research Scholarship | Tour de Cure is a pre-eminent health promotion charity that raises funds for cancer research through cycling and other events. Together with the Foundation for Surgery, Tour de Cure has generously offered to fund the prestigious Foundation for Surgery Tour de Cure Cancer Research Scholarship. |
